DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS AND ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenured position in Statistics at the level of Full Professor. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader, internationally recognized as a leading statistical scientist, and have an established record of scholarship. They will be expected to play a leadership role in research through dissemination of research, graduate student supervision, and active engagement in statistics research. Duties may also include undergraduate and graduate teaching. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Statistics. Waterloo has an internationally recognized history of strength in Statistics research and is in an exciting period of growth with several senior and junior appointments planned in both Biostatistics, Statistics. It also has international recognized strengths in Actuarial Science and Quantitative Finance where we are also in a period of growth. The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo is among the most active departments in the world with over 45 full time faculty and 152 graduate students. Departmental strengths in Statistics and Biostatistics cover a wide range of topics including methods for the analysis of longitudinal and life history data, cluster randomized studies, data mining, missing data, environmental statistics, survey methods, clinical trials, foundations in statistics, and interdisciplinary collaborative work.

Candidates must have a PhD in an area of the mathematical, statistical or actuarial sciences, and research interests in actuarial science. Professional actuarial qualifications and experience, although not strictly necessary, would be a distinct asset. Departmental strengths in Actuarial Science and Finance cover a wide range of topics including probabilistic and statistical modelling in risk theory, insurance, pensions, solvency management and stochastic models in finance.
