Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Cancer Outcomes Research (COR) Program, Cancer Care Nova Scotia, the Programmer/Statistical Analyst will be involved in the methodological development and statistical analysis/interpretation of research projects conducted by the Cancer Outcomes Research Program. This position mainly involves supporting the provision of statistical data, database management, and data analysis using linked administrative health databases.
The Programmer/Statistical Analyst is primarily responsible for the coordination and execution (including extraction, statistical analysis, and interpretation) of data analyses to support the research initiatives of the CIHR Team in Access to Quality Colorectal Cancer Services in Nova Scotia. In addition, he/she will be expected to participate in the planning and development of study designs for health services research, critical appraisal of the literature, and report writing.
The analyst must have an understanding of the core data elements of the particular projects to pursue meaningful analysis of the data. Specifically, the projects will focus on measuring (or developing ways to measure) access to, quality of, and/or inequities in colorectal cancer care in Nova Scotia; many of these projects will involve retrospective cohort studies using linked administrative databases. He/she will use databases from the following data agencies/organizations: Nova Scotia Cancer Registry, Vital Statistics, Population Health Research Unit, Oncology Patient Information System, Nova Scotia Cancer Centre, Capital District Health Authority - Radiology Information System and Capital District Health Authority - Lab Information Systems.
The analyst will also provide assistance as it relates to the submission of new research grant proposals and publications of findings.

Qualifications:
ˇ                         Master's degree with expertise in research methodology and statistics is essential
ˇ                         Training in a health sciences or social sciences discipline (e.g. epidemiology, community/public health, biostatistics or health economics) is an asset
ˇ                         Extensive computing skills in word-processing, database management, & statistical analysis software
ˇ                         Experience with SAS is essential
ˇ                         Experience with working in research teams
ˇ                         Minimum three years of related experience
ˇ                         Demonstrated ability in study/methodological planning using strong judgment, initiative, and creativity in decision-making
ˇ                         Strong knowledge of statistics
ˇ                         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
ˇ                         Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team environment
ˇ
Hours of Work:
ˇ                         Full-time, 75 hours bi-weekly
ˇ                         1 year contract; renewable based on performance, with expected end date of September 2012
